27th Birthday Fiesta at Pignic Pub and Patio
Updated: Feb 16, 2019
So I’ve been 27 for a month now. I think I have said “I’m 26” like three times. Turning 27 was not one I was looking forward to. I mean… I don’t feel 27, cause 27 sounds old and I don’t feel old. Sometimes I still feel 19. Sometimes I feel like nothing has changed in the last 10 years. I don’t know how it happens, we age and we don’t even realize it. I don’t know how time so goes so quick. Life is really fucking short if you think about it.
But back to the point. I was turning 27 and I wasn’t stoked about it. So what did I do? I threw a big birthday party! Because to me, that made sense. The party was great, wonderful turn out. I truly am beyond lucky with the amount of support and love I have here in Reno.
But my amazing girlfriend, Abbey – find her at abbeykay.co – took a bunch of beautiful photos at the party, so I knew I had to write up a blog post to show it off!
So let’s dive in! I’ll be sharing details on my Fiesta theme, location, décor, and my outfit!
When I was 17 I had a diecisiete-anera, so basically just a taco themed pool party. It only made sense to have a fiesta a decade later… wow the word decade hurts. Hah! But yes, so I sent out this invitation:
And yes, I even got the nails to match:
But it was happening. My 27th birthday Fiesta, filled with tacos, beer, and cactus, because cacti are overly trendy and I have to use them while I can.
One of my favorite spots in Reno is Pignic Pub and Patio. It’s a bar with a huge beer list and grills. You can actually take your own food there and use their grills, which is beyond cool.
I rented out their covered patio, total cost breakdown was:
Sun Deck: $180 (for 3 hours)
Non Hosted Bar Minimum: $375
Auto Gratuity: $75
Event Coordinator: $32
I only had to pay for the sundeck, gratuity, and event coordinator fee. My friends were able to reach that Bar Minimum Tab easily.
Because they allow you to bring your own food, I just went to Marketon, a local Hispanic grocery store, and bought 3 pounds of seasoned carne asada and 3 pounds of seasoned chicken for tacos, tortillas, chips, and cute plates and napkins. My mom’s tomatoes have been insane this season, so she made a homemade pico, my aunt makes an incredible guacamole, so she brought that. Oh! And we had a bean dip. So that was all the food, and I think it was enough. Andddd. They surprised me with the cutest Pinterest Worthy Watermelon Cactus.
Though honestly, I never ate! Never found the time!
Thank goodness for Amazon! Everything at my party was from Amazon!
Here are a few of the big items that I am SO happy we found:
I also picked up for extra color:
Prickly Pear leaves
All of that can be found at a Mexican grocery store, for insanely cheap. The Prickly Pear leaves were only $0.10 apiece!
The bigggg thing I had to have was a photo backdrop! I made mine with the Picture Frame I made from my wedding. And then I just tied fishing wire across every 7 inches, and folded tissue paper in half over it, then cut the tissue paper.
To make this, I actually cut the tissue paper beforehand at my house, and assembled once we arrived at the bar. I used my paper cutter to make the slits even on the tissue paper, but honestly… setting this thing up was the biggest pain in the booty. It was so windy, that it made it so difficult. But, it held up pretty well. And I am still so happy that I was able to use that frame more than once.
But seriously… all the photos… LOVE.
And here was how everything else looked:
So originally when I was getting ready at my house and I put this adorable dress on that I just got. But, idk, I wasn’t feeling it. I felt like it was too much boob, and I was nervous about the wind. So I popped into a top I had recently gotten from Stitch Fix!
I sure am in love with that service. If you didn’t know what it is, it’s one of those clothing delivery services. They send you five items of clothing, and you can keep what you love, and send back what you don’t! I always end up keeping my whole box, but it’s a great way to get clothes if you don’t enjoy shopping – which I don’t!
Anyway! I rocked this red top, white shorts, and these awesome green wedges my mom got when I was in third grade. They’re definitely in style again, and I love them!
So yes! The party was definitely a hit! I love doing things like this, putting together events. And I seriously can’t wait to have a big house to throw parties for every holiday! But until then, I’ll keep throwing parties at bars!

Nice, right? Keep in mind that I link to Amazon and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases.
