Going Retro in Lake Tahoe

Updated: Feb 16, 2019

I once wrote a blog post all about styled shoots and what they are. In that post I talked about how common they are in Reno. And by common, I mean they’re happening ALL THE TIME. I would say I hear about one happening or I see it on someone’s Instagram Stories at least once a weekend.

But why? I’ve been trying to figure that part out. What is the end goal of a styled shoot? Who is it going to benefit? How is it worth the vendor’s time?

As I consistently contemplate these questions, I will add this question, which you should always ask yourself before participating in a shoot:

How will it benefit you?

Or in my case, me? How is it going to benefit me?

This shoot had one simple answer: I’m getting dope ass photos from one of my favorite photographers in Reno that I haven’t worked with.

I actually heard about this photo shoot a few weeks before it happened. It was rumored that a Vintage Shoot in Lake Tahoe was happening, and I thought to myself, “how cool!”

Just going to TLDR real quick – I got invited to be in the shoot on Saturday at 8:15 am. I had to be at the salon for hair and make up at 8:30 am. It was a short notice, but I didn’t even care.

These photos were shot right near Nevada Beach in Round Hill Pines, South Lake Tahoe. The beach is just slightly north and is private, but it was the perfect location for these beautiful photos.

Photographer is Sam of AB Photo Reno. We met in 2017 at Tuesdays Together, and her work is some of my favorites, simply because it’s so bright and beautiful. Sam has also taken Reno by storm the past few months by launching a podcast called The Reno Social. She interviews local business owners to learn about their backgrounds and how they got started. It’s beyond cool and a great way to get to know some local entrepreneurs here in my hometown of Reno, NV. Book your session with her here. https://www.abphotoreno.comOh and of course, give her some Instagram Love. https://www.instagram.com/abphotoreno/

Okay. Without further adueeee, let’s dive into these photos. Because they’re straight beautiful and Sam did an incredible job.

The Vintage Set Up

The set up of the shoot was incredible. Here are some of the amazing contributors:

Vendor: pop-up wedding company, The Hytch

Stylist: @wildflowereventsnv

Swimsuits: Strange Bikinis

Clothing: Tipsy Gypsy

Cookies: Silly Sweet Madi

Florals: Haven Florals

Close Ups of Me in Lake Tahoe

I won’t lie, I love the photos from this shoot. I was able to narrow it down to about 20 for Instagram to be used over the next year! Hah! But here’s some of my favorites.

Me and the Girls

One of the ULTIMATE perks of this shoot was getting to work with two of my blogger babes, Ashley and Abbey.

Ashley is a fashion blogger who I actually met last year through Instagram. But it wasn’t like, I had been following her and we eventually met. A mutual friend of ours told me that she thought we would get along so I messaged her via Insta and told her I wanted to get a drink with her because I thought we should be friends. Yup, we’ve been friends ever since. Follow her blogging journey here on her website, Layers of Ash.

Abbey is like, the original blogger of Reno. We met because we did a Reno Blogger Giveaway back in… I want to say 2016. But we’ve only just gotten close this year and I’m so happy about it. She’s an encouragement blogger, and she does just that – she encourages me to be me and succeed. Get inspired by her and follow her blog, the Abbey Kay Blog.

The last babe is a friend of mine, Mandy. She doesn’t have a blog, but she’s a sweetheart and is just gorgeous.

And here's just some more beautiful group photos!

I may have sort of gone off on a tangent in the beginning of this post, but truly, I love being involved in creative styled shoots like this. Getting to know local creatives from Reno is such a passion of mine, and it’s inspiring to get to know other business owners.

I have more styled shoots to share here on the blog. Check them all out here:
